Creepy Jimmy Wales

Every year when Wikipedia asks me to donate money I get creeped out by Jimmy Wales and his personal appeals. What's with his super intense pictures? Am I supposed to be so awed by his image that I'll want to donate to Wikipedia? Feels like a lame attempt at a personality cult.  Or it could be Big Brother watching me read Wikipedia articles. Creepy.

Bravo! You haven't been duped by the financial organization that operates the site. The site (according to its auditor, KPMG) only needs about $2.5 million per year to operate. So, why the budget request for $20 million?

Well, that extra money helps fund the sweetheart deals that go “no-bid” style to former co-workers and former employers of Wikimedia Foundation staff, as well as to Jimmy Wales’ own for-profit company.

Because the WMF only spends 41 cents of every received dollar on program services that support the charitable mission of the organization, Charity Navigator gives the WMF only one measly star (out of four) in terms of organizational efficiency.

It’s so unfortunate to find bloggers who would want to feed even more money into such a corrupt system. Glad you're standing apart.

Nathaniel, this is so true. But now, every time I visit our blog, creepy Jimmy Whales is there to greet me. I need to blog again soon.
